Today
the Charlotte area has several large insurance companies,
brokerages and agencies. These companies include the Royal
and Sun Alliance, which is part of one of the largest
insurance organizations in the world; The Jefferson Pilot
Life Insurance Company; The Hartford, which recently selected
northeast Charlotte as the site of its East Coast call
center; and TIAA-CREF, the largest pension fund in the
U.S. TIAA-CREF's operations are expected to require about 1,000
people trained in financial planning. Among the large
property and casualty brokerage firms are Cameron M. Harris & Co., Marsh and McLennan, and Willis Corroon.
